Just as National Signing Day was wrapping up, Kevin Wilson was able to add one more “#BOOM” by grabbing a commitment from wide receiver Taysir Mack. With a number of playmaking options on offense already in the class, offensive coordinator Kevin Johns has to be drooling over being able to add another player like Mack to the class. Mack was a Rutgers commit until today, when a last minute change of heart ultimately led him to sign his letter of intent with Indiana.

With a loaded set of pass catchers on offense next year, Mack will certainly have to compete to see immediate playing time as a freshman. With that being said, Mack making an impact on offense right away is certainly not out of the question. With his 6’3” frame, Mack projects as an outside receiver that will be able to stretch opposing defenses vertically. He already has extremely soft hands and excels in his route running. This combination should make him a great target for Indiana’s quarterback, and his level of success will come down to his ability to separate from defenders early on in his career. The skillset is there, the body is there. If Taysir Mack wants to become a great player in IU’s offense, the only thing preventing that from happening would be himself.

As a senior last season, Mack racked up 900 yards and 15 touchdowns on 45 catches. IU was able to land Mack after loving his official visit on the weekend of January 22nd. Although he visited Rutgers the following weekend, Mack ultimately decided that ending up in Indiana was a better option. It seemed like a last minute change of heart, because not even his high school coach knew what he was going to do until he announced on National Signing Day. Mack joins Jonah Morris and Phil Benker as receivers in the class.
